~ about us ~
On January 14th, 1940, thirteen Christians met for the first time in a room above Meador’s Hardware store. They sang songs, studied the Bible, had communion each Lord’s Day as Christians had for a thousand plus years before them. The church quickly grew and required a larger meeting place. In November 1941, they purchased and remolded an old residence on Mill Street. Four classrooms and a baptistry were added in 1946. Previous baptisms were in Flat Creek by the 13th Street bridge. The current auditorium for worship services was constructed in 1960. Christ’s church that meets on Mill Street enjoys a wonderful spirit of unity that runs as deep as their history. The first recorded history of Christ’s church in Acts 2:42 says, “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” As brother Bill Wiley said in his remarks commemorating the 20th anniversary of the group’s first assembly, “We pray the same will be truthfully said anytime the history of the church in Cassville is recorded.” Decades later, we have the same prayer.
